Investing in sustainability before it became hip

Environmental Responsibility

Lever Style takes pride in our industry-leading role and our commitment to playing our part to ensure the fashion sector is on the path to a low-carbon future. We are a signatory to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Fashion for Global Climate Action.

We were the first apparel manufacturer globally to partner with WWF, World Wildlife Fund, as a pilot member of their Low Carbon Manufacturing Program and honoured the company’s low carbon footprint initiatives with a Silver Award.

We were also a founding member of the Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium, a group of like-minded Hong Kong-based apparel and textile companies committed to promoting sustainable practices.

We champion the adoption of eco-friendly energy and efficient energy practices, such as the use of solar panels, natural gas boilers and LED light sources. We carefully monitor and seek innovation in energy and water consumption, air quality and waste management. For example, we developed a proprietary zero-discharge wash that eliminates waste-water discharge in the laundry process.

We also extensively source sustainable and circular materials including organic cotton, BCI cotton, recycled polyester & rayon fabrics, and degradable plastics and polybags. We provide materials and fabrics from mills with sustainability certifications such as GOTS, GRS, Blue Sign, OEKO-TEX®, BCI, ZDHC, and more.

The production facilities in our multi-country manufacturing platform meet international certification standards such as ISO14001 which focuses on energy-saving, water-saving, waste water treatment, and chemical management. They follow our customers’ chemical management guidelines, as well as ensuring all the chemicals used in washing have qualified testing reports and meet ZDHC’s MRSL requirements.

Social Responsibility

We care about our products as well as the context in which they are made. In 2006, we became one of the first apparel manufacturers in China to become certified for SA8000, one of the world’s strictest responsibility standards. We strictly adhere to both local laws and international rights norms. Our respect for people has been the foundation for our 60-year success.

We support initiatives to end human trafficking and modern-day slavery. We contribute to the NGO Not for Sale that works to protect people and communities around the world, and are part of the AllSaints support community.

Lever Style is a member of HERproject, the women’s health and wellbeing programme run by Business for Social Responsibility. In their peer–educator model a selection of workers are trained as trainers, then roll out a health training programme to all workers across the factory.

Lever Charity also runs an active apparel donation program, with one item donated to charity for every 1,000 garments sold. Recent recipients include Crossroads, the Salvation Army, Savers, and Lions Clubs International Shenzhen.
